a nice day to take pictures!

5 years ago today- the trees around Auburn regional hospital were a flame with crimson leaves- the sky was a clear crisp blue. I woke up early just buzzing with anticipation. I didn't know what you looked like- I had never heard your voice- I never knew how much I would love you or how fierce my instincts to protect you would be. I never knew how little sleep I could survive on or how frustrating being a mommy could be. I didn't realize I'd cry so much- both with joy and with pain. All I knew was that I had two willing arms that wanted to hold you.

And I have never regretted it for a moment.

Hudson- you are such a joy! You drive me crazy- you melt my heart- you make me laugh- you help me see the world with new eyes.

I love you! Happy Birthday my five year old! Your hands are no longer the chubby hands of a toddler, but they still fit in mine- and they always will!

Hudson had a field trip to the badlands yesterday to look for rocks and dinosaur bones. I wanted to go with him, but am still feeling under the weather and decided that Lincoln and I had better stay home. When Hudson got home he had all sorts of stories. The problem is, they weren't true.

How do you punish a child for lying? What is the best way to teach an almost 5 year old that telling stories that aren't true is a bad thing? He has such a great imagination, but it's getting a little out of control.

I gave him a few chances to admit that the story was made up, but he insisted that it was the truth. I said things like " sometimes we like to imagine that things happen- is that what this story is? Is it your imagination?"

"No! It really happened"

So- I am a little disappointed, but mostly just worried that I need to somehow teach him not to lie.

Lincoln is doing alright- he's still trying to crawl. He's got his two bottom front teeth poking out now, and it is making him sleepless which in turn is making me sleepless. When I got home from work it took me two hours to get him to sleep. and then he kept waking up. The only way I could keep him sleeping was to feed him so he ended up sleeping in our bed- again- much to Jason's chagrin.

Lincoln's first tastes of rice cereal

Field Trip for Hudson! 10/1/2010

On Friday Hudson's Head start class took a field trip to the big hill at the college to roll down the hill. I was a bit dubious- you know, kids rolling down a hill can lead to injury, grass stains, etc... But I remembered that I need to let go more. I don't know what I was so worried about. Hudson is 10 times the worrier I am. He didn't even roll down the hill, even though I encouraged him to try. Instead he did this hoppy, rolly, thing down the hill instead. He lost his shoe once and had to stop. :)

It was a nice sunny day, and not too cold (thankfully) and a fun time to be had by all.

New Jacket!

So I have really be trying not to spend any money, but Hudson has grown out of his robot coat and needed a new one. One really nice thing about working at Wal Mart is that I get to see when the new stuff gets put out on the shelves. There were only $35 dollar winter coats for a while, (Which don't get me wrong, is not a bad price, but out budget is soooo tight right now) and then they put out these nice $14 coats and it seems really warm and it matches his snow pants. :) I got it a size too big so that he's got room to wear a sweater under it and has some room to grow.

Also, lately Hudson and Lincoln have been especially cute.

Lincoln and I decided to go eat Lunch with Hudson at HeadStart today. It was fun to see him, and it was nice to get a free lunch too- We talked and ate, and Hudson showed me around his classroom a little, and introduced me to some of his friends. His teachers say he's well behaved and a good listener, and that sometimes he can get frustrated with the other children.

After seeing the behavior of some of them, I can see why.

But it is still very early in the year and they will all settle into a routine soon!

Hudson stayed home from HeadStart today because last night he threw up a little in the sink. I think it was just because he was coughing, but I wanted to make sure that it wasn't anything worse. Of course by the the time 8 AM rolled around, he felt fine and was pretty mad that he had to miss a day of preschool. He'll probably be good to go tomorrow, but for today it's a low key rest at home day.

Lincoln's cough is gone. His gums are bugging him, but otherwise is a smiling happy baby. We are starting him on Rice Cereal today or tomorrow. Tomorrow he will be 5 months old! WOW!
Time really flies.

TGIM

Thank goodness it's Monday. I know, that seems counterintuitive, but Mondays are Hudson's day off from Headstart, so I got to sleep in a little bit today. And when I say a little bit- I mean a little bit. Hudson got up early as usual and wasn't content to snuggle in my bed, but wanted to run around the house and demand I join him. But not having to get him on the bus was a nice change of pace because I had to work last night.

Last night was Lincoln's first night in his crib. I can't believe he's already too big for his bassinet. He has lost all signs of newborn-ness and is now a chubby heffalump. :) He's the sweetest mildest baby- he's almost always grinning! I will post more photos of them soon.

Story From Grandma when I was at work:

Grandma and Grandpa Moore took Hudson out to run errands around town and stopped to get gas at a gas station. Hudson wanted to watch Grandpa pump gas, but couldn't turn around because his seat belt on his booster seat was too snug.

"Grandma, how do I unclip my shoulder strap?"

Grandma loosened the strap a bit and told him that he was too young to know how to unclip it by himself.

"Well," he said suddenly very serious, "When I grow up and marry Britton and I have to put her kids in their car seats I will need to know that."

"Well," said grandma, "when that happens we'll make sure you know."

As I said before, I have not been feeding him lines about marrying Britton- it's all his own idea. And apparently, he thinks about it quite often... (Sigh)

Show and Tell!

Hudson had his first day of Head Start for this year today. It was only a half day, but his job on the chart this week is to be the Show and Tell person. He is SOOO excited. He has chosen his red truck, his spider-man foot ball, and the photo book from his great-grandma that he filled with pictures of his favorite people and favorite things like post cards. His favorite picture in his picture book is the one of him and Britton Tunnell at the family fun center. Sometimes he sits and stares at it and then crys because he misses her. He tells everyone he's going to marry her in the temple. He's pretty devoted for not having seen her in over a year. :)

I wonder what he'll say tomorrow when he shows everyone- but he has forbidden me from coming, which is just as well because I have to work tonight and will probably be too tired anyway.

Lincoln has a nasty cough- he's a little bit crankywhen he is trying to sleep, but the doctor assures me that it's just a cold. He's getting better at rolling and he's also gettting really good at grasping toys and things. And I have a feeling that unlike Hudson, he's going to want to put EVERYTHING in his mouth. (Sigh)

Today we took Hudson to the Dentist to get his choppers polished. He went back all by himself, because apparently he's big enough to do so... :( when exactly did that happen? They cleaned his teeth well and said that his teeth look good. The only concern they have is with his underbite- which will probably require some orthadontic work in the next few years. I wonder how we'll be able to afford it.

But he had a good time, and got to pick a prize from the treasure chest. He looked at a pencil and then put it down because "it doesn't have a tip on it". When I explained that it needs to be sharpened before it gets a tip he decided to take it home after all.

Grandma Griffin bought Hudson a bank with a section for tithing- so for Family Home Evening tonight, we'll be doing a lesson on tithing. He hasn't paid tithing yet, but since he is almost 5 (YIKES!) he thinks it's time he started. So tonight we will practice finding out what 10% is and we'll use his bank and show him how to fill out a tithing slip. Should be fun.

I am thankful that he's learning the gospel and that he enjoys family home evenings!

Some funny things Hudson said last night:

This airplane can go really really fast! It can do like 17 miles an hour!! It's going to fly to Helena!

and

"Knock knock!"
me: "Who's there?"
Hudson: POTATO! (hysteric laughter)
Me: Potato who?
Hudson: (looking confused) just potato.

Hudson sledding on college hill. It was his first time going sledding and he was a pro. He would lean his body to steer the sled, and he didn't get too scared to go by himself. He was rather fond of sending sleds down without a rider. Maybe he was giving his old buddy Borego a turn...

UPDATES! With Pictures!!!

Ok- mostly just pictures. Hudson is doing well, besides the fact that he had a nasty cold. He now mostly over the cough and boogies... The new humidifier we bought seems to help. He is getting more and more excited about becoming a big brother. He sings to my belly and blows it kisses, and talks to his brother. The baby wiggles when Hudson puts his hand on my belly and talks to him. (Baby refuses to move when Jason tries... Jason is starting to say he doesn't think there is a baby in there... I must be up to something... LOL)

Ok- Here are the pics. I will try to annotate as much as possible. :)
Hudson making Christmas Cookies at Head start!

Monday, January 04, 2010

Hudson had a great Christmas. He was actually more excited about his Lighting McQueen Pajamas than he was about anything else. He really loved all of his gifts, and has had a great time playing with all of them.

This morning was his first day back at Sharon's house and he was a little hesitant because he's had such fun with mom and dad during the break, but he's missed his friends and the routine he has there too.

Last night, I succumbed to Hudson's pleas to watch Spiderman on dvd. We've had it for a while but hadn't gotten around to actually watching it. (Again, this is a pictureless post for the time being, but I will have to include some photos of this) He was literally climbing the walls after. And pointing "I love you" signs at us and going "pchew!" like he was shooting webs. After scrambling against the living room wall for a while, he turned and said, "My fingers aren't sticky enough, mom. Maybe if I got a spiderman costume with sticky gloves I could climb up!"

He's also become really good at the "Oh my gosh!" face, after he tells you something cool he'll drop his mouth open really wide and his eyes will get all big and he'll incline his head, just so, and wait for you to react the same way.

I love my son.
